Fire Chief Gary Fredericksen joined YDFD in 2012. Prior to joining YDFD, Fredericksen was Division Chief for the West Sacramento Fire Department in charge of Operation and Administration, and oversaw an $11.5 million budget with 60 line and seven administrative personnel. At YDFD, Fredericksen will command 32 uniformed personnel, three full-time administrative employees, and a full complement of fire suppression, emergency response and rescue equipment.
Fredericksen started his fire service career as a reserve with East Yolo Fire Department in 1985 and was one of the first firefighters hired by the newly formed City of West Sacramento in 1987. He was promoted to Engineer in 1994, Captain in 2000, and Fire Division Chief In 2007.
Fredericksen has an AA degree in Fire Science and Business Administration. He is currently serving as the Yolo County Fire/Rescue Mutual Aid Coordinator for CalEMA and serves on several committees including the Yolo County Fire Chiefs Association. Fredericksen is a lifetime resident of Yolo County and currently lives in West Sacramento with his wife and two children.
